Does Medicare pay for home modifications?

Does Medicare pay for home modifications? I wish I could say they do, but I have never heard of Medicare helping with assistive care devices. A good internet source to confirm that is http://www.medicare.gov at this page:
http://www.medicare.gov/longtermcare/static/HomeCare.asp Click on “home repair and modifications” at the bottom. It says they do not assist with home modifications, but they do provide some DME, durable medical equipment. The following page defines DME, or durable medical equipment as, “Certain medical equipment that is ordered by a doctor for use in the home. Examples are walkers, wheelchairs, or hospital beds. DME is paid for under both Medicare Part B and Part A for home health services.” http://www.medicare.gov/Glossary/search.asp?Language=English&SelectAlphabet=D

Is a friend or loved one struggling with mobility?

Is a friend or loved one struggling with mobility in the bathroom? Consider adding grab bars. Stationary grab bars are permanently mounted to the wall or floor. Fold-up grab bars adjacent to the toilet rotate to pivot out of the way for greater convenience and safety. Shower grab bars are located vertically on the wall to the side for getting in the shower, and then horizontally along the back for stability. Visit http://atlantahomemods.com/GrabBarsforBathrooms.aspx to learn more about ADA grab bars for showers and bathrooms.
